A Unprepared Story... (2010)
This is an interview between Joanna Witulski and a couple - Laura and Brian.

Joanna - Before your situation happened did you have your flashing smoke and carbon monoxide detectors set up?
L/B - No they were not set up, I had them in their boxes in the closet.
Joanna - Can you explain how you became aware of your situation?
L/B - I (Laura) was in the guest bathroom talking to Brian. We both felt a force pressure feeling; a flash, and we startled. After a few seconds, we smelled the aftermath of a gas explosion.
Joanna - How did the firefights communicate with you when answering your call?
L/B - We communicated with the firefighters with body language and speaking slow. We both wear hearing aids and can read lips well.
Joanna - After your situation, did you wonder what could have happened if it had been more than it was?
L/B - Yes, the house could have been on fire or one of us have been dead.
Joanna - What message would you like to share with deaf and hard of hearing people who have received or purchased flashing detectors?
L/B - Our recommendation to the folks is to put up your detectors IMMEDIATELY, no excuses! It will eventually save your lives.
